evaluation

we were asked to create graphics for a child's video game.
i had designed my game around the idea of flower fairy's.
the design of my characters was influenced by the old flower fairy's dresses that they used to wear. for example the rose fairy would have her clothes and hair based around a rose. so i tried to design my characters clothes and colour scheme around the flower that it was.
if i were to do this again i would have taken the time to do more designs and to changed the backgrounds so my characters don't stand out as much as they do now. i would also like to have spent more time on the research part of my project as i slacked on this part. overall i am not happy with the final outcome of my prodgets and would have liked to do it again. there are some parts that i like for example i like the buttons that i had created and i liked the character design.

buttons

theses are the buttons or tokens that will be used in my game. the most of them are for the direction you want to walk in ; left, right, forward, back
and the middle button is to symbolise a clue button.
when making theses buttons i tried to make them look shiny and round. i wanted them to look like this as children prefer things that are more shiny and colourful

game screen shots

this is an example of what the game would look like when you are looking for one of the flower creatures.
once you have found one of them this screen will appear and they will ask you if you can find the other flower creatures
this is another picture of my creature hiding. but this one isn't hiding very well. i had decided that i want some to be hiding and then some to be minding their own business.

artist research

picasso had used normal everyday objects in his paintings. for example in picasso's  painting of the weeping woman he used a tissue as one of the most important pieces of his art work.
he also uses i different range of thickness in his line work. and with the use of sharp corners it portrays the feeling of this painting.

in many more of his paintings you will nearly always find everyday objects in them. for example in the following images he has used, a mirror, tissue, measuring jug and a vase and a chair,

line work

with this first line drawing it shows that this is a more childish style because of the simple lines and shapes. with the use of the bold thick lines this makes it more easy to distinguish what this animal is.
the creator of this drawing had created this image digitally probably with a digital tablet.
i like the affect of the bold lines and simple shapes because it makes it look more fun and inviting to children.

this example of line drawing is a bit more realistic and mature. the ruff scribbley affect still gives of a childish feeling. in this picture they have tried to define some shadows for example they have put a line on the middle of the face to show a shadow on one side.
i think that the creator of this image has drawn this picture with a tablet on a digital art program. they may have also drawn this image with using the hand they don't draw with usually to create this affect

in this example of  line work they have used very thick black lines but they have also tried to put shadows behind it. ignoring the shading the line work is bold and has both sharp edges and smooth edges. this gives of a fun feeling for children to relate to. they have also used a simplified expression so that you can tell what the turtle is feeling. this line work looks like it could have been made traditionally. but because of how clean the lines are they may well have been made digitally

with this example the line work is very detailed. it shows shading and very realistic facial features.
the way in which this was drawn gives of a more mature and professional look. unfotunetly this isn't a good example of line work as it is to complicated and detailed for a children.
in this style of line work expressions will be hard to distinguish.
this style also may not apear as fun towards children. i think that this style is very good but it is more suitable for more professional or mature illustrations

with this line work it has a nice affect by making the shading become part of the line work. this is nice because you can still define were the shading is without having to colour it in. this style is nice because it is simple but also detailed. the creator of this image has managed to show detail without having to put allot of lines into the line work. i think this style is the nicest one to use as it is clean and bold but it isn't to simplified nor to detailed.

character development

the story of my game is that you are a young child and you have to go and find flower creatures hiding around in a forest. this game is a bit like a virtual 'hide and seek'

so when creating the characters I had to base them on a flower.
this game is also aimed at girls so i wanted to make the characters look cute.
with this character I based it on a rose. so i incorporated a rose into the characters dress.

this was the first original design for my character. this character was not based on any flower in particular
so i decided to change it and base it on  a specific flower

theses are close ups of the images on the left side. we were asked to do this to show our ability
to do visual recording.  after doing this i had discovered that i am not very good at visual recording .
i liked the details from the butterfly wing the most and I might use this in my character design if I decide to put wings on my creature. i will also probably be using the flower detail because my character is a flower creature

we went to Dartmoor to collect photos for our graphics of our game.
these photos are the ones i liked most out of the whole collection that i had taken of Dartmoor.
i chose theses because they had the best places for my characters to hide. they also looked interesting and visually attractive

for this image i took a photo of this because i thought it would be a good idea to make my character hide in the water or behind the rock

i took this picture because i wanted my character to be hiding behind some of the rocks

this one was taken because i thought it would be nice to have my character sat on the branch at the top, because the branch looked like a swing

i took this picture because i thought that my character could be hiding in side the tree

i took this picture because this seamed like it would be a good place for my characters to hide because there are allot of places to hide

i took this picture because it looked mysterious and i think there are allot of places were my character could hide

i took this picture because with the flower's it looked like this would be my characters home

i took this picture because of the way there are flower's everywhere. this is good because i can hide my character in here and they would be camouflaged because my character has flowers

i took this picture because of the same reason as the one above

i took this picture because i thought it would be a good idea to have my character to hide behind the rock

i took this picture because my character could be hiding behind the trees and if I had more time I could animate it and make it pop around the trees every now and again

i took this picture because this lloked like another place that could be my characters home

i took this picture because it looked visually attractive

i took this picture because i liked the way it looked like a destroyed house. but this may not be good for my character. as the setting is wrong

in this picture i thought that my character could be hiding inside ditch

i took this picture because my character could be hiding in the water

i took this picture but unfrotunetly this doesn't have many good hiding spots for my character

i took this picture because this place also has a good amount of hiding places

i took this picture because of the way the leaves cover the water. so i would like to hide my character under the leaves

i took this picture because i thought i could turn the rock into a house or castle for my characters

today we were asked to bring in an object to visually record
i had brought in a small model of a husky and tried to re draw this model
in 3 different angles. I chose to draw in a sketchy style as it showed that the dog was fluffy. the colouring is in greys because the dog had grey hair
